Unity Architects were appointed as the new build architects by a private client to provide professional architectural services to support them in creating an exceptional luxury residential outbuilding tailored purely for their enjoyment and the entertainment of their guests.
The main narrative driving this project was social engagement. Our brief was to design an architectural intervention that encourages friends and family to gather and create memorable experiences. In response, the ancillary leisure outbuilding has been designed to captivate the client and exploit the unique rural setting.
We have contemplated the vibrant and brash environment of Las Vegas pool parties and woven them into the English countryside in a more sedate, elegant fashion. The resulting space is perfectly tailored for hosting sophisticated summer parties, lounging in the warm weather, bathing in the pool, and appreciating sweeping rural views as the setting sun defines the evening ambience.
This modestly sized building delivers its core spatial programme with a touch of exploration and adventure. Internal sightlines and acoustics were carefully considered; guests can be getting ready in the upper-level bedrooms while remaining connected to ground-floor activities via the double-height space, perhaps calling down for a glass of champagne while the same curated music playlist filters seamlessly throughout the building.
The architectural layout introduces distinct zones and a sense of intrigue. A striking feature gable shelters an external lounge that is only accessible from the inside, as it is uniquely edged by the external swimming pool. Internally, the combination of an axial staircase, exposed lattice floor joists, Crittall glazing, and varying geometries contributes to a highly dynamic sequence of spaces.
